Ubuntu commissions

(I am also playing with the idea of the Ubuntu 2/3s 1/3 concept. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_philosophy – For those working outside the farm, must put in 1/3 of their pay or any earnings to the community to help the community. For those working on the farm, for those who actually work; get paid 1/3 of everything the farm industry makes in sales. Still working that one over in my head.

That being said; I’m starting out at 25% – at this time, for those who live on my land since I pay 99% of the bills.. Note: this is not in full effect yet. I’m still adjusting and testing the numbers; one of our partner communities pays less, because they too pay most all the bills.

Example: We have a moving/ cleaning business, as well as a tree trimming/ yard work business. With that, I am paying the Ubuntu way for outside help who have their own bills (house, land, utilities, etc). With tree trimming; if you have your own equipment, you keep 2/3 and the farm will only keep 1/3. People who think and act like business owners, get treated and paid like business owners. In the moving business, we car pool. So the owner of that vehicle gets 1/3 for fuel, wear and tear on their vehicles. (In our case; 2/4, 1/4 for people who live on my land (because they have little to no overhead))

How the math work: if we have a tree/ yard work job that pays $1500, and there are three works, but two have their own equipment.

If you have your own house/land and you pay all your own bills:
1500 Ă· 3 (Ubuntu), then Ă· three workers = $166.66 per person for outside workers. So the workers without equipment, but does not live on the land; will get paid $166.66 for that job. The workers with their own equipment, who also do not live on the land; will get paid double ($333.33). The exception to this is climbing, climbers get paid more. If the climber who did not live on the land did not have their own equipment; would get paid the $333.33. With their own equipment, they would get $500 (if it is a climbing job and you climb).

In our case… I you live on my land and I pay most/all the bills:
1500 Ă· 4 (25%), then divided by three workers = $125. If you had your own equipment, you would get $250 instead. Climbers without equipment would get $250, with equipment, $375 (if it is a climbing job and you climb). The difference will go towards the things I provide for your comfort and security on the land.

How the Math Works: For moving/cleaning job… I typically charge $50/hr pending how far we have to drive to get to the job; on average, it is about $50/hr.

Outside workers (Ubuntu 1/3) will get 16.66 per hr. If they are the one driving the car pool; they will get $33.33 per hr. People who live on the land will get $12.50/hr unless they drive the carpool, then they get $25/hr. The difference will go towards the things I provide for your comfort and security on the land. Note: If you drive your own vehicle and do not car pool, you do not get the extra commission unless it it a one person job. If you are an outside working and not in route in order to car pool, that will be up for negotiation.

Now… Ubuntu says that if you have an outside job and live on the land, you should have to pay 1/3 of your earnings to the community. In our case, 25% – But I don’t wish to monitor your paycheck and so forth, feels too communist to me. So just consider that rate and try to be fair to our community with you time, money and labor. Meanwhile, I will just stick to a standard flat fee. If you do have an outside job or business and cannot help as much on the land physically, you should contribute financially.

Like the Bible says, “You shall know them by their fruits”.
